When I was a kid, I used to set my GI Joes up on the floor in our living room. I remember one year a few weeks before my birthday, I was doing just that. Suddenly a muffled voice would come from another part of the house, "This is Captain Armbruster to base, come in base..." then stop. Being ten years old, I jumped up and ran into the kitchen. "What was that?" I asked my Dad. He'd say, "I don't know what your talking about!" I would go back to playing with my action figures. A few hours later, I'd here it again, "Captain Armbruster, this is command...COME IN!" I'd jump up again and run into the kitchen, "Dad! Did you hear that?" "Nope! Maybe you heard the radio." he said. "Okay." I replied and went back to playing. Over the next couple of weeks, my Dad tortured me with his "Radio Chatter" until my birthday came. He got me the Skystriker which came with Brad "Ace" Armbruster.
Throughout my childhood, my Dad did stuff like that all the time. It was one of the things I loved about him.
I was up with my 8 month old son this past Thursday when my Sister called at 4 am. Richard Frank Zronek had died at 3:30 am at Metro Health Medical Center. He was 62.
